The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive
immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed.
HSE will prosecute in cases where there is a significant risk, a disregard for established standards or persistent poor compliance with the law.

The stated purpose of the Act is to provide a greater degree of reassurance and protection to good Samaritans, volunteers and those who may be deterred from participating in socially useful activities due to worries about risk or liability.
Nobody has ever been successfully sued in the UK when acting in the best interest of a patient whilst doing first aid.

The truth is that CPR is a vigorous, sometimes violent procedure. There is a high risk of injury to the patient but injury is preferable than death.
The minimum age to gain official qualification is 16 years of age.
